A full iron profile shows how much iron is in your blood, how much is stored, and how well it is being carried, which a single iron reading cannot.
Serum Iron. The iron circulating in your blood at the time of the draw; it shifts through the day and after meals, so it is read with the other markers.
Ferritin Levels. The protein that stores iron, and the best single guide to your iron reserves.
TIBC & UIBC. Total and unsaturated iron binding capacity: how much room your blood has to carry iron, which rises when the body is short of it.
% Transferrin Saturation. The share of your iron carrier protein that is loaded with iron, useful for spotting both deficiency and overload.
Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient problems worldwide. It often causes tiredness, low stamina and poor concentration long before anaemia shows up on a blood count. Women with heavy periods, people who are pregnant or planning to be, vegetarians and vegans, regular blood donors and endurance athletes are at higher risk.
Too much iron matters too. Some people absorb more iron than they need, often because of an inherited tendency, and it can build up quietly. Looking at ferritin and transferrin saturation together helps tell low stores, normal stores and overload apart.
This pattern is linked with low iron stores, even if haemoglobin is still normal. Your consultant will look at diet, periods, training and your blood count, and an unexplained low result should be followed up with your own doctor.
Ferritin also rises with inflammation, infection, liver strain and alcohol, so a high ferritin is read alongside CRP and liver markers from the same screen. High ferritin with high saturation can suggest iron overload and is worth checking further with your own doctor.
Reference ranges vary by lab, age and sex. A normal profile is a helpful baseline, especially if you donate blood or train hard and want to retest over time.
Reference ranges differ between labs, and a single result is a snapshot. Your consultant reads every value against your history and the rest of the screen, not in isolation.
This test is part of Baseline’s full blood screen: 122 parameters across ten systems from one draw, for AED 850, with results in 48 hours. It is not sold as a single test, because the result means more next to everything else.
Ranges are the lab’s own. Your consultant goes through what they mean with you.
Your results arrive in the Baseline app, every marker against the lab’s own range, checked by your consultant before you see them. The values above are an example.
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. If you feel unwell, or your symptoms are new or getting worse, speak to a doctor.
Reading is not a diagnosis. A consultation goes through your history with you and tells you plainly whether a program fits, including when it does not. AED 350, credited in full against your first order.
