Magnesium supports muscles, nerves, sleep and energy. The screen measures it in your blood as part of the Vitamins & Minerals section.
Serum Magnesium. The level of magnesium in the liquid part of your blood. The body keeps it in a tight range because muscles, nerves and the heart rhythm depend on it.
Magnesium is involved in hundreds of processes, from muscle contraction and nerve signals to energy production and bone health. Most of it is stored in bone and inside cells, and only about 1% is in the blood. The body pulls from those stores to keep the blood level steady, so a normal serum result does not always mean stores are full. A low serum result, though, is a clear signal worth acting on.
In the UAE, heavy sweating in the heat and regular training can increase losses. Low intake from a diet light on leafy greens, nuts, seeds and whole grains adds to it, as do alcohol, gut problems and some long-term medicines. Low magnesium is linked with muscle cramps, twitching, tiredness and poor sleep. It also travels with calcium and potassium, so it is read alongside your kidney markers and the rest of the Vitamins & Minerals section.
Labs report magnesium in mmol/L or mg/dL. Many adult ranges sit roughly between 0.70 and 1.00 mmol/L (about 1.7-2.4 mg/dL), but ranges vary by lab.
A low result is commonly linked with low intake, heavy sweating, alcohol, gut losses or some medicines. It often responds to changes in diet. Your consultant will talk through what fits your result and when a recheck makes sense.
A raised level is uncommon. It is most often linked with reduced kidney function or high intake from supplements or magnesium-containing remedies. A sample that is handled roughly can also read high, so an unexpected result may be repeated.
Reference ranges differ between labs, and a single result is a snapshot. Your consultant reads every value against your history and the rest of the screen, not in isolation.
This test is part of Baseline’s full blood screen: 122 parameters across ten systems from one draw, for AED 850, with results in 48 hours. It is not sold as a single test, because the result means more next to everything else.
Ranges are the lab’s own. Your consultant goes through what they mean with you.
Your results arrive in the Baseline app, every marker against the lab’s own range, checked by your consultant before you see them. The values above are an example.
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. If you feel unwell, or your symptoms are new or getting worse, speak to a doctor.
Reading is not a diagnosis. A consultation goes through your history with you and tells you plainly whether a program fits, including when it does not. AED 350, credited in full against your first order.
